Will you still want to own a car?

Given so much restrictions and blame as a motorist in Singapore, would you still consider having a car? With petrol price hikes and crappy car insurances, don't you think you could have devoted money and time to better purposes and even better, fulfil higher needs ?
Even if a reckless jaywalker zooms out of nowhere and you hit him, you still have to get fined, face punishment or taste both flavours. I still vividly remember this un-supervised toddler at Rochor Road outside OG running around, mingling with the crowd with no parents with him. I couldn't do anything but just really hope that the toddler didn't get hit when he suddenly dashed out to the super busy road with great curiosity and a happy smile. Luckily a lady grabbed him back and we thought she was the mum. Life first, great lady. =)
Buses, MRTs and Taxis are great compliments, MRT's darn punctual, Buses quite economical, Taxis......... anything uncle shoulder it lar. Haha.

Receiving the blessings.

Today I have converted.
A firefox user I am now.
With a thunderbird at my calling, spam, desperate housewives and horny teens ceases to wreck the peace of my pristine spyware-free, virus-free and porn-free HDD.
May spammers stop peddling fake rolex and viagra and aspire to seek proper livelihoods.

Desperate Housewives in my mailbox!

The show has influenced the porn industry pretty much, I'm sick of spam, worse still with these " Unfaithful bitches ", " Lonely housewives " crap.
O what can I do to destroy spam !

Hostile neighbours.

Those 2 dogs are widely believed to be deranged, incessantly barking through the cycles of days, barking at everyone that they see, hear, smell.
Having to perform the usual rubbish dumping ritual only possible behind their apartment, I was amused to hear an 'old grannie' coughing.
Looks like the dog's having a bad bad sore throat. Haha.

Hotel Rwanda.

Not a review, planning to watch.
But it just reminds me that our world is pretty narrow-sighted as a ST columnist once wrote.
When there's terrorism, everyone's on the ball with it.
When there's tsunami on Dec 26, everyone rushes to help, but this one is well done.
But after a Hotel Rwanda read, I believe that somewhere out there is also needing help, it's just not covered or reported well on the media.
We live with the bad trait of forgetfulness.
We still have HIV in Africa to deal with, lives of people wrecked by civil strife and war etc.
It's hard to be a superhero these days especially when the news breaks your horizon limits.
There's just immense suffering globally.

American Idol Delusions.

Braxton's 'cousin'....... the classic plump lady dressed in the dark........
Don't you agree they had delusions of grandeur?
And all had problems coming to terms with Simon's words.
Psychiatrists need to reach deeper into society to twist some minds back to reality-facing yet optimistic individuals. These stamped out contestants are obviously too optimistic, living in their own fantasy to be more precise.
Mary Roach needs it.

For a moment I thought she was wielding a glass bottle.........

Pongal Revisited.

And it was far more crowded than expected.
The atmosphere was quite like an Indian New Year and they were giving out free purple sugar canes.
All the slicing of the sugar canes with the durian seller's strokes of deathly precision just makes you keep lookin'.
An indian kindly offered me 2 sticks of that candy and I'm very much touched by his kind gesture.
We advanced to the cows and followed what others did : Sayang the cow's head.
The scalp hair is stiff while the body hair (or do you call it fur? Haha) is silky and slightly oily.
That's for the big black cow. I guess it's the most sacred cow over at Little India cos it's very well-decorated.
And we shopped in the nearby Tekka Mall with the sticks. =)

Pongal

Pongal or what's translated as Harvest Festival was a surprise for mum and I as we happen to spot it while travelling down Delhousie and Campbell Rd for reminiscence of the relief aid event.
The familiar and rare purple sugar canes, the adorable but lonely-looking cows and goats kept in enclosures.
The communication for the festivity was there for the medium was English. It's a good move to allow everyone to join in and not make it only comprehendable by the festive majority.
I didn't stay for long but here's some pictures for you have a glimpse of the event.

Food.

I gazed at the lips of a lady popping a pill in the papers and noticed the lipstick and began relating it to food colouring.
We treat ourselves like food don't we ?
Always attempting to create visual grandeur through application of colour enhancement, strategic positioning, auxiliary agents and enticing smells.
Compare it to most people one would see day to day, all four qualities are ubiquitous.
Yummy. Haha.

Dancing in the moonlight.

It's a supernatural delight.
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight!

Dancing in the moonlight!
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancin' in the moonlight!

Psychology Today.

There was once where I found this rare looking magazine in MPH, it looked more like a Men's Mag. cos of the nudity and sexual union depiction, but it read 'Psychology Today' and it was a darn good read. From Love, emotions, brain circuits to neurotransmitters, it covered the mysteries we encounter day to day. We're just a chemical bag.

What would you do if.....

Close your eyes and breathe deeply 10 times.

Imagine you have lost all your family and friends, you're the lone survivor.
What next?

Natural Calamities with a purpose?

The usual rainfall we get every now and then is recognised as an event part of the water cycle. Rain is a natural phenomenon which brings clean water (used to) back to ground-level, in other words, it is a regulating mechanism for clean water.
Fires on an uninhabited hill somewhere on the globe are not uncommon, it seems natural that they'll burn once a while and make the ground fertile again.
Earthquakes, Tsunamis and Typhoons perhaps have their own role too, albeit very destructive and anti-establishment to Man.
Heavy rain kills the massive settlement of ants, fires that break out tears down the homes of many animals and Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Typhoons sometimes take away what we've endeared ourselves to.

Tsunami Relief in Action.

Special thanks to a NTU student who took down the photos in stealth and brought out the true atmosphere there at Dalhousie Lane, where the momentum for tsunami relief goods collection was just unstoppable !

Working hand in hand to lift food cargo
Tough lady who helped out for long hours, say until 10 p.m. plus ?
Mum sorting out goods, probably shocked by bras and panties donated.
Just look at the amount of clothing donated!
Lose the grip and you lose your toes.
His choked red face describes it all.
More than 3 such trips were made during the night.
The kind gentleman who offered his vehicle for a good cause.
'They should donate more milk powder! What bras and panties !!'
Surprise!
It's been a hard day's night and we're still left with these.

Thank you heng for all these photos.
