Random thoughts.
1. Man weren't built to survive in wet places.
- The reporting on the recent landslide showed pictures of the dead and the alive. For one of those rescued, he was pictured resting on a stretcher and smoking in comfort with an awkwardly large hand - it was swollen and wrinkled, similar to an assembly of red dates. I wondered how ancient people dealt with rain and storms, do they hide in caves or what ? What if the caves were filled ? Do they just go 'sorry' and let the fella stay out just like when the lift is full/overloaded?
2. That I should disspell the myth on disqualified varsity enrollment for ex-/current detainees by asking NUS.
I switched on my com this afternoon and after the memory check, I had a black screen of death.
++_+_++_+_+++_+ GENERAL PROTECTION FAULT _+_+__+_+_+_+_+_+
Blah blah blah...
Okay, I resetted it and it just stood dead.
I carried it to Sim Lim and near the escalator, one fella giving out pampflets spotted me and asked whether I needed repairs. Without much talking, he laid down his stack of paper and beckoned me to a store.
It was a small store around the Sim Lim backalleys and operated by 2 indians.
He opened the casing, turned on the com, fiddled with the interior, took out my RAM and tried a new one and voila, it worked!
I was so freakin' scared that my HDD died on me. All my pics could have been gone just like that!
All was done within a minute. Sleek.
$20 for service and $45 for 215MB RAM.
I wished I knew how to do computer repairs.
I asked for receipt and further asked whether the TwinMOS RAM had guarantee. " Yesh yesh, Lifetime. ".
The African customer looked at me and smiled and I replied with a cynical look, " Oh yes, lifetime... ".
