Drawing blood from mice

Today i was quite deeply disturbed when I heard one of the ways to draw blood from mice was to withdraw from its EYES. I was like OMG, that's bloody inhumane. I came back and searched info on it and yes, there's such a technique.

At first impression, you'll probably think of poking the eyes with a capillary tube or something. Turns out that blood is drawn from orbital sinus instead, but the risk of injuring the eyes are still very high! From what I read it isn't really a much advocated technique (really disturbing, i feel).
